Pearl vs Perle: fake PRL tokens and scams to avoid

"PRL" is not one asset. Native Pearl uses it, but so do Perle and Parallel Governance, and so did the long-dead Oyster Pearl. Wrapped tokens and outright fakes copy Pearl's name on Ethereum, Solana and Base. This page lists the look-alikes found as of October 6, 2026, how to check you hold real Pearl, and the fake wallets, miners and airdrops aimed at Pearl users.

Three rules catch most scams. Native PRL has no contract address. A normal Pearl address starts with prl1p. Nobody legitimate will ever ask for your seed phrase, the 12 (or 24) words that control your wallet.

One ticker, many tokens

Several projects picked the ticker "PRL". Identify an asset by its network and identifier: a token on Ethereum, Base or Solana has a contract address (on Solana, a "mint"), and that is what you compare.

On October 6, 2026, DexScreener showed about $1.18 billion of liquidity for the Base "Pearl" token, whose pool was created on October 5, 2026, yet the pool held 1.05 billion tokens against just 0.000127 WETH (wrapped ether). The real money you could sell into is close to zero.

According to the SEC's December 2020 litigation release, the complaint alleges that Oyster Pearl's founder covertly minted about four million extra tokens around October 29, 2018 and made about $570,000 selling them. The SEC calls them "Pearl tokens", so a 2018–2020 legal story about "Pearl" is likely about this token.

Upbit listed Perle on April 27, 2026, the day Pearl's mainnet began, and Perle's Korean name reads as "Pearl", so some English headlines called it "Pearl (PRL)".

Native PRL has no contract address

Perle, WPRL and the fakes above are tokens: entries in a smart contract on another blockchain. PRL is a native coin, like BTC on Bitcoin. Pearl is a fork of btcd (a Go version of Bitcoin) with no smart contracts, and new PRL appears only as block rewards (how Pearl works). A "Pearl contract address" therefore always points to a wrapped, unrelated or fake token, and CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap leave native Pearl's contract field empty.

Third-party inscription projects, such as Pearlscriptions' PRL-20 and Black Pearl Market's PRC-20, write token data into Pearl transactions. They are not PRL and not official.

How to check you hold real Pearl

  1. Check the address. A mainnet Pearl address starts with prl1p and is 63 characters long (the rarer post-quantum P2MR format starts with prl1z; the official wallet does not create it). 0x…, bc1… and Solana addresses are not Pearl, and tprl1… addresses hold worthless testnet coins.
  2. Check the network, not the ticker. On an exchange, deposits and withdrawals must use Pearl's own mainnet, whatever its label. ERC-20, SPL (Solana), BEP-20 or Base means it is not native PRL.
  3. Look it up on the official explorer. Paste your address or transaction ID into explorer.pearlresearch.ai and check that Mainnet is selected. Native PRL transfers appear there; tokens on other chains never do.
  4. Check the identifiers on price sites: CoinGecko id pearl-2 (web page coingecko.com/en/coins/pearl-research) or CoinMarketCap id 41876 (slug pearlresearch).
  5. Sanity-check the price. On October 6, 2026, CoinGecko showed native PRL at about $1.14 and Perle at about $0.11, so a "PRL" quote ten times lower is probably Perle.

MetaMask, Phantom and other Ethereum or Solana wallets cannot hold native PRL; use the official wallet.

Is Pearl on Binance or Coinbase?

No. As of October 6, 2026, neither lists native Pearl. The "PRL" on the big exchanges is Perle:

  • Coinbase lists Perle as PRL-USD.
  • Binance and Bybit list PRLUSDT perpetual futures (derivative contracts with no expiry) that track Perle. Neither has a PRL spot market.
  • Upbit, Bithumb, MEXC, Bitget and Gate also list Perle as PRL, and KuCoin announced a Perle listing.

CoinGecko lists native PRL markets only on SafeTrade and BigONE, with about 53% and 47% of reported volume on October 6, 2026. CoinEx swaps the labels: its "PRL" is Perle, and native Pearl is PEARL. That market was inactive on October 6: no trade since September 29, deposits disabled.

We name venues only to tell the assets apart. We link to and recommend none, and a listing says nothing about a venue's safety.

Wrapped and bridged PRL

A wrapped token is an IOU: a bridge operator keeps your native PRL and issues a token on another chain, worth something only while the operator holds the PRL and honors redemptions. Pearl has no official bridge and links to none.

  • Custody risk. If the operator is hacked, disappears or stops redeeming, the wrapped token can lose its backing.
  • Delays. An open issue on PearlBridge's GitHub, filed September 24, 2026, reports 236 PRL stuck for more than 24 hours, with no visible reply as of October 6.
  • Price display. On October 6, 2026, CoinGecko showed WPRL with the same price and 24-hour change as native PRL, so it may be copying PRL's price rather than measuring WPRL's pools.
  • Not for mining or hardware wallets. Pools pay PRL only to native Pearl addresses (prl1p…), never as WPRL. Trezor lists WPRL as an ordinary Ethereum token, but no Ledger or Trezor app supports native PRL.

Fake wallets, miners and malware

Wallets

Pearl Research Labs publishes one wallet app, the Pearl Wallet desktop app (v2.0.7, September 30, 2026, for Windows, macOS and Linux), plus command-line tools, all on its official GitHub releases. Its GitHub organization has three repositories: pearl, blockbook and pips. The only other wallet on Pearl's own domain is the self-custodial web wallet inside Pearl Compute (compute.pearlresearch.ai/wallet), where that cloud-mining product pays rewards. As of October 6, 2026, there is no official mobile app or browser extension, and any other "Pearl web wallet" site is third-party.

  • Two different Chrome extensions are called "Pearl Wallet": IDs illgffgijkmfekknbbffpfnccbmffpho (Kaspador) and hoagjpnikohppplfmgifdlgiblpohojk (another publisher). Neither is official. Check the publisher and ID, never the name. Our wallet guide lists the community apps.
  • Installers come only from the release page, never from ads or chat links. Compare the SHA-256 hash with checksums.txt (how to).
  • Updates: the official app never downloads updates itself; it only opens the GitHub releases page. Any other update prompt is not from Pearl.

Miners

As of October 6, 2026, Pearl Research Labs publishes one miner, vllm-miner, which runs only on NVIDIA H100 and H200 cards (sm90). Consumer-GPU miners are all third-party and mostly closed-source, so you trust their developer.

  • On October 6, 2026, a GitHub search for "pearl miner" returned 125 repositories, many of them closed binaries from new, follower-less accounts. Pearl links to none.
  • One demo miner ships Windows .bat files with someone else's wallet address already filled in. Run it unchanged and you mine for them.
  • At least one repository redistributes PeakMiner binaries, against PeakMiner's license; repackaged binaries can be altered.
  • After a network upgrade (see the fork history), take new miner versions only from the developer's repository, never from a link promising an "updated" miner.
  • We found no confirmed malware report for a Pearl miner as of October 6, 2026, but closed binaries from unknown accounts can steal wallet files or swap addresses.

Download miners only from their developer's official repository: SRBMiner-MULTI, BzMiner, WildRig Multi or PeakMiner. Open every .bat or config file in a text editor and check that the payout address is yours. If antivirus flags a genuine miner, do not disable it: compare the developer's published hash, then exclude that one file. Our mining guide has the full setup.

Fake airdrops and giveaways

As of October 6, 2026, Pearl Research Labs has announced no airdrop. Every PRL was created by mining: the genesis block paid nothing, and the code has no premine, developer fee or treasury (PRL tokenomics). Ignore:

  • "Claim your PRL" pages that ask you to connect a wallet or sign a transaction: they drain wallets.
  • "Validation", "sync" or "unlock" requests for your seed phrase, from a site, a form or a person.
  • Giveaways that ask you to send PRL first to receive more.
  • Cloud-mining offers that use Pearl's name. Pearl's own product, Pearl Compute, runs on compute.pearlresearch.ai; an offer elsewhere claiming to be Pearl's is unofficial. We have not tested Pearl Compute and do not recommend it.

Anyone who asks for your seed phrase is a scammer. Your seed phrase belongs on paper and, if you ever need it, in the official wallet's restore screen, opened by you. Pearl's team cannot recover a lost seed or password, so no "support" agent needs them.

  • No official Telegram. Pearl's site and CoinGecko's Pearl entry list none, so treat any "official Pearl Telegram" as fake.
  • No endorsed pool, exchange, bridge or community wallet. Pearl's official pages link to none. pool.pearlresearch.ai exists but needs a GitHub organization login, and its terms are not public. A third-party app that names the official Discord as support is still third-party.
  • Impersonators. Scammers send direct messages posing as moderators or support staff. Treat any unsolicited message about Pearl as a scam, and check the X handle (prlnet) and the domain (pearlresearch.ai) letter by letter.

Why sites show different PRL prices

On October 6, 2026, at about 16:52 UTC, CoinGecko showed native PRL at $1.14, with a market cap of about $381–385M. Other sites differed, usually for these reasons:

  • Wrong asset. A widget that looks up "PRL" by ticker often pulls Perle: a page showing about 175 million PRL in circulation and a price near $0.11 is showing Perle (Perle's supply was 175M on October 6, 2026). Sites that read WPRL's own pools can show yet another price.
  • Stale data. Caches and old articles keep stale prices. PRL has swung widely: CoinGecko records a low of $0.14 on July 23, 2026 (a brief dip on a thin market) and a high of $1.76 on September 23, 2026. With only two venues in CoinGecko's ticker list, quotes can also jump.
  • Different supply figures. CoinGecko's circulating supply, 336,670,700 PRL, matches the emission formula in Pearl's code. CoinMarketCap uses a self-reported 225,828,363 and MiningPoolStats about 278.2M, so the same price gives different market caps.

For a reference price, use CoinGecko's Pearl page (id pearl-2) and read its timestamp. We publish no price predictions.

Frequently asked questions

Is Perle the same as Pearl?

No. Perle is a token on Solana from Perle Labs, an AI data-labeling project, and it is the PRL listed on Coinbase, Upbit and many other exchanges. Pearl is a separate Layer-1 blockchain whose coin, also called PRL, is created by mining and has no contract address.

What is the Pearl contract address?

There is none. PRL is the native coin of its own blockchain, like BTC on Bitcoin. A "Pearl contract address" on Ethereum, Solana or Base belongs to a wrapped, unrelated or fake token.

Is Pearl crypto a scam?

Pearl is a working blockchain: its code is open source on GitHub and every block since April 27, 2026 is visible on the official explorer. That does not make PRL a safe asset: trading is thin, the amount the team mined at launch is undisclosed, and many scams use Pearl's name. Nothing on this site is investment advice.

Is there a Pearl airdrop?

As of October 6, 2026, Pearl Research Labs has announced no airdrop. Every PRL is created by mining, with no premine and no token contract to claim from. "Claim your PRL" pages, and anyone who asks for your seed phrase, are scams.

Is WPRL the same as PRL?

No. WPRL is an Ethereum token issued by PearlBridge, a third-party custodial bridge that says it is not affiliated with Pearl Research Labs. It is a claim on PRL held by the bridge operator, not native PRL, and pools cannot pay mining rewards to it.

Why do sites show different PRL prices?

Usually because they mix up assets or show old data. On October 6, 2026, Perle traded around $0.11 while CoinGecko showed native PRL at about $1.14. Check that the page uses CoinGecko id pearl-2 or CoinMarketCap id 41876, and look at its timestamp.
